Nanaimo Lifeline Program

The Nanaimo Lifeline Program helps medically at risk individuals on Central Vancouver Island live independently while maintaining an emergency link with Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). The in-home personal emergency response service delivers priceless peace of mind to clients and their families. The Silent Guardian Fund, administered by the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, sponsors clients who cannot afford the monthly fee.

Code Brew

The Code Brew Coffee Kiosk, located in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) lobby, provides a welcoming place for patients, staff and visitors to meet or take a break. It underwent a major facelift and expansion in 2008 order to keep up with its burgeoning customer base. “We knew it was time to renovate when we were serving 100 customers an hour every morning,” says Lynda Fielder, Manager. “We now serve 550 to 650 customers per day during the week, and this will increase during the wet winter months.” The renovation provides bigger, more efficient space for the kiosk’s staff – now 14-strong – and has allowed for more seating and an extended menu: soups, stews, savouries, salads and granitas are a few of the new offerings. Code Brew is owned and operated by the Foundation, which directs all profits towards medical equipment and healthcare services for Central Vancouver Island.
