The Bowen Park Thursday Night Dance Group put their moves towards a good cause last month when they donated $500 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. The gift was raised through a $5 entrance fee for dancers and has gone towards the New Renal Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). The Dance Group is made up of almost 100 seniors who meet weekly to dance to live orchestra music, a band made up of retired musicians. Since 2007 the Dance Group has contributed $2,000 to NRGH.
Since opening in September 2010, the in-hospital Renal Unit has provided more than 2,500 dialysis treatments. Previously, patients needing in-hospital care had to travel to Victoria for treatment; the NRGH Renal Unit serves patients across the North Island. The Unit allows NRGH to care for more critical patients in ICU and provide more complicated surgeries.
