Ed looked at his open paint cans and spotted overalls and said “well maybe not today, I have to finish painting”. In truth, he wanted to wait for Cynthia and upon her return to the Island they collected their winnings together. The couple split the prize money equally, shared some with their five children and nine grandchildren, and Ed bought a new truck. Cynthia put her share away for safe keeping, with plans to purchase her own vehicle this spring.
Although winning was a delightful windfall the couple is happy to support the Lotto for Life fundraiser because, as Ed explains, “it’s for the hospital and it’s local”. This year is no different, and Ed and Cynthia have already purchased two tickets for the 2010 lottery. All proceeds will help fund the purchase of equipment for the new Emergency Room Expansion at NRGH. The Early Bird draw for a Kia Sportage will happen February 27th and the Grand Prize of $100,000 will be drawn on April 17th. Only 5,000 tickets will be sold for $100 each, and there are more than 70 prizes to win aside from the Grand Prize. Lotto for Life is the longest running Hospital lottery in BC.
