Thrifty Foods locations across Vancouver Island sold 4lb Buck Brand bags of oranges from February to March. With every purchase $1 was donated to the Hospital Foundation’s within the region of each Thrifty Foods location. As a result the four locations on Central Island, one in Parksville and three in Nanaimo, raised close to $11,000 for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation.
Thrifty Foods’ community commitment was instilled by co-founder Alex Campbell and continues to this day. All proceeds from this gift will help purchase lifesaving equipment at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) which is the community hospital for more than 160,000 people. The Foundation’s Brenda Rositano said, “Thrifty Foods always finds new and exciting ways to help increase local medical capability and the Foundation is very grateful for their commitment to hospitals across the Island.”
