Thrifty Foods was helped by Sundeck Centres, the Pacific Coast Mustang Association, and Craftsmen Collision. These companies independently raised funds for the Emergency Department at their booths during the Festival. Together, the event raised nearly $10,000 for the purchase of lifesaving equipment for the Emergency Department at NRGH.
Maeve O’Byrne, of the Foundation said, “the work, the planning, the creativity that went into this event is enormous. It was so wonderful to see so many people out to enjoy the incredible food, the outstanding music, and to support a cause that is important to everyone in Nanaimo. The Foundation would like to congratulate, and to thank, Thrifty Foods, organizer Allison Donaghey and her crew, all of the businesses who participated with booths, and all of the participants who fired up their grills. And thank you to the people of Nanaimo who made the Thrifty Foods Nanaimo BBQ Festival such a success!” The Hospital Foundation has committed to raise $4 million for the Emergency Department, they are more than 70% to the goal, but still have a way to go. The NRGH “ER” is the busiest on Vancouver Island and the new space will nearly triple the existing area, learn more at www.nanaimohospitalfoundation.com
