When Dylan Skarbo-Tallone paid a visit to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation he had a precious gift to give. His father, Robert Tallone, had passed away in October 2013 as a result of a traffic accident and despite his tragic loss the twelve year old wanted to show Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) and Victoria General Hospital (VGH) that he appreciated the efforts of medical personnel who tried valiantly to save his dad. With the support of his classmates at Seaview Elementary School, Dylan was able to make a difference.
The school’s counselor suggested a bake sale and Dylan’s classmates contributed an array of baked goods as well as their time to make sure the fundraiser was a success. When proceeds were tallied the Seaview kids had raised a total of $228.65. Accompanied by his mother, Tracie Skarbo, Dylan then delivered $114.33 to both NRGH and VGH. When asked what motivated him to make a difference Dylan thoughtfully answered, “When my dad needed help, the hospitals were there for him. I want to help buy equipment for other people who have the same needs as my dad.”
