Our Mission: The Foundation creates opportunities for donors to advance healthcare in our communities.
Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation was established in 1977 as a means through which grateful patients and loved ones could "give back" to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). The Foundation began actively fundraising in 1991 in response to the rising cost of delivering quality healthcare on Central Vancouver Island. Since then, we have raised over $36 million for NRGH and our residential healthcare facilities. Refer to history and facts and figures for complete details.
Advancements in medical treatments and technologies, growing demand for services - government healthcare funding simply can't cover it all. The Foundation raises much-needed dollars for state-of-the-art medical equipment, new facilities and renovations, and continuing education for our healthcare professionals. We also provide a means through which conscientious corporations and individuals can say "thank you" by making a real contribution to healthcare delivery in our Central Vancouver Island communities.
The Foundation raises funds for the following facilities and programs
- Dufferin Place Extended Care Facility, Nanaimo
- Eagle Park Health Care Facility, Qualicum Beach
- Nanaimo Lifeline Program's Silent Guardian Fund
- Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH)
- Oceanside Health Centre, Parksville
- Trillium Lodge, Parksville
We also own and operate two revenue-generating businesses: the Nanaimo Lifeline Program and the Code Brew Coffee Kiosk located in the NRGH lobby.
NRGH is the primary care facility for the communities identified on the map; it is also the designated "regional referral hospital" for all areas north of the Malahat.
Why Give?
Most of us have experienced a medical emergency or know someone who has. Health issues arise regardless of schedules or financial circumstances. Healthcare services save lives and simply need to be there no matter what.
The Central Island area served by NRGH has grown! The most significant growth is seen in the elderly population, with the number of residents aged 85 and older expected to dramatically rise in the coming years. The escalating costs of medical equipment and services, combined with the increasing needs of an aging population, make it impossible for governments to fully fund hospitals.
That's where we come in - in partnership with you, our donors. Your donations are put to work right here on Central Vancouver Island. Funds given through the Foundation help provide the highest quality healthcare services for everyone who needs them, right here at home. Your generous gifts fund improved facilities and leading edge medical equipment, and ensure that our healthcare professionals have the tools they need to do their jobs.
