Sheri and Mike Shanahan, together with close family and friends, initiated “Jesse’s Gift” two years ago. The couple was motivated to do something meaningful for the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s (NRGH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) after the heart-rending loss of their newborn daughter Jesse in May 2013. After her premature birth in 2013, family and friends raised $30,000 to help the Foundation purchase a Central Monitor System ($90,000) to monitor NICU infants from a central location at the same time.
Earlier this week Sheri delivered a second donation raised during the group’s West Jet raffle in July. Jesse’s Gift of $3,450 will fund three new resuscitators for NICU. The new resuscitators will be conveniently kept alongside NICU incubators. There are nine incubator beds at the NRGH NICU that serve the needs of premature and ill infants.
