The Chix with Stix Dragon Boat Team delivered their 2011 donation to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation earlier this month. Their $3,160 contribution will help purchase equipment to fight breast cancer and was raised thanks in part to proceeds from the Nanaimo Theatre Group’s play Barefoot in the Park, held at the Bailey Theatre last February. The paddling team also has a strong fleet of sponsors that support their fundraising goals and were helped by their Tiller, Doug Drysdale, who declined a common tilling fee in order to increase the donation.
The Team has been helping the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) since 2006 and has contributed almost $8,500 towards healthcare to date. They have been paddling together for six years and were 6th overall in the B Division at the 2011 Save-on-Foods Dragon Boat Festival in July. All proceeds from the Dragon Boat Festival will help provide diagnostic and treatment equipment for women facing breast cancer in Central Vancouver Island; all donations stay on the Island in support of NRGH.
