The Nanaimo Chix with Stix dragon boat team continue their efforts to support the needs of nurses working with cancer patients at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).
The paddling team recently delivered a $3,000 donation to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation to be equally shared between the Palliative Care Unit and the Cancer Clinic at NRGH. The funds will afford educational opportunities previously unavailable for nurses who are providing compassionate care to patients facing cancer.
The team is supported by a strong sponsorship, including Jim Tyson of Investors’ Group, and their tiller Doug Drysdale waives his fees in support of the cause. Since 2006 the team has directed almost $19,000 to NRGH in the local fight against cancer and for the benefit of Central Vancouver Islanders.
