CIBC Wood Gundy recently delivered their final installment of a $50,000 pledge towards the Maternity and Neonatal Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH); in fact they delivered $516 more than promised. The funds were raised over the past five years by local branch advisors on CIBC World Markets Children’s Miracle Day, during which commissions earned on the first Wednesday of December are donated to a chosen charity.
Branch Manager, Nathan Thornton, explained that the Nanaimo branch selected the Foundation because at some point everyone needs hospital care and therefore “there was no better recipient of the funds”. Foundation President, Maeve O’Byrne, expressed her gratitude for the considerable generosity shown to the healthcare needs of Central Island residents by CIBC Wood Gundy, “without their help progressive services such as our level 2 Neonatal Unit would be difficult to realize”. Since 1984, the CIBC World Markets Children’s Miracle Foundation has contributed more than $190 million to charities worldwide.
