Through a Mad Hatter Tea, Jean’s Week, and Holiday Tinned Cookie Sale the “the little Department that could” raised more than $2,800. Florence was not surprised by the outpouring of support from her co-workers as Coastal Community Credit Union had shown their concern continually since Cori was diagnosed with Lupus and during subsequent stays in hospital in Vancouver and Victoria.
To Florence, the New Renal Dialysis Unit means “a great deal as it has made life easier on my daughter, who has been through a lot, and it is fantastic for the community.” If Florence could send a message to donors it would be “I appreciate what you have done. Thank you so much.” The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation has committed to raising $540,000 for dialysis equipment, including the purchase of 12 haemodialysis machines. While the Unit opened in September the Foundation continues to raise funds to finish paying for the purchase of these machines.
