Each year employees from the Mayer Family Group of businesses gather to celebrate the holidays at their annual Christmas party. The jovial mood is always amplified by the spirit of giving. Colleagues donate prizes, purchase $5 entry tickets, and some even build homemade furniture to raffle. All proceeds are turned into a gift for charity. Last month the group raised $800 for the Neonatal and Paediatric Units at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). Yet, they didn’t stop there.
Throughout the year Mack Sales & Service, part of the Mayer Family Group, collect a portion of the leasing fees for one of the dump trucks in their fleet. Affectionately referred to as the “moustache truck”, because of the large moustache painted on the hood, the vehicle earned $1,000 last year in support of men’s health at NRGH through the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation’s Brovember fundraiser.
Richard Mayer explains that his employees at Mack Sales & Services of Nanaimo & Victoria; Island Aggregates; R & G Equipment; Bastion Management “want to help” and many have young families who will be using healthcare services at NRGH. He added, “We are community supported so we also want to support our community. Thanks to our employees and customers, this is gift is possible.”
