FedEx Express made a special delivery to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) last month. Thanks to the “FedEx Cares Spring Canadian Charity Delivery Contest”, Nanaimo resident Barb Parker was able to nominate the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation for the Facebook-driven contest. This quarterly FedEx Express initiative gives Canadians the opportunity to nominate their favourite charity for a chance to win a $5,000 donation. The public is then invited to “vote” for the charity of their choice by “liking” nominees on Facebook. More than 3,200 people voted for almost 100 charities in the international company’s most recent contest.
Nanaimo locals may recognize Ms. Parker from the Wave Babes Dragon Boat Team; paddlers who work throughout the year to fund breast cancer diagnostic equipment for NRGH. In honour of the Wave Babe’s determination to provide medical options for local breast cancer patients FedEx Express gladly directed their gift to the Medical Imaging Department at NRGH.
Stephen Barbour, FedEx Express Senior Manager for BC, together with Jeff Birrell, FedEx Operations Manager at Nanaimo Airport, presented the $5,000 donation to Bob Fulcher, Medical Imaging Manager.
