Judy is accompanied by Barbara Scott, last year’s winner. The group has given a jury-selected painting each year over the last five years to mark their 20th to 25th anniversary.
In 2009 the Nanaimo Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists established “Legacy 25” to mark their 20th anniversary as an artists’ collective. Legacy 25 was a promise to deliver a jury-selected painting by one of the Federation’s artists each year for five years. Last month the group delivered their fifth and final artwork to Maeve O’Byrne of the Nanaimo & District Hospital. The most recent painting presented, is by Island artist Judy Brayden and is titled “Erythronium”. It will hang within the new Emergency Department at NRGH.
Maeve O’Byrne, Hospital Foundation President, said, “We are delighted that the local branch of the Federation of Canadian Artists selected the Foundation, and therefore NRGH, to receive this incredible legacy. We now have Judy’s beautiful painting hanging in the Emergency Department along with Barbara Scott’s and Helen Webster’s. Winners from the first two years, Regina Seib and Terry Nimmon, both have paintings hanging in the Renal Dialysis Unit at NRGH. They are all precious additions to the Departments they grace.”
