The Royal Canadian Legion Mount Benson Branch #256 continue to target the healthcare needs of veterans with their most recent donation of $ 3,500 towards the purchase of a cystoscope for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). Cystoscopes help urologists diagnose bladder cancer, prostate disease, incontinence, and voiding dysfunction. A new cystoscope will cost approximately $16,000 and enhance accurate and early detection; therefore maximizing long term survival. The Legion Branch #256 was able to provide funding thanks to their Poppy Fund and the generosity of individual donors in the community who buy a poppy each year. The group has given more than $93,000 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation in support of healthcare equipment and services that will benefit veterans directly.
