An “elegant twist on the classic fundraiser” accurately describes an inaugural black tie event hosted last month by the newly formed “Businesses for a Better Nanaimo” in support of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. The “Dinner of Lights” enlisted a “Nuit a la Lumière” French theme as inspiration to help fund new surgical lights for two new operating rooms under construction at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).
A red carpet entrance welcomed guests arriving by limo at the Nanaimo Golf Club. The luxurious décor was complemented by a quartet from the talented Vancouver Island Symphony. Violinist Calvin Dyck created an extraordinary experience as he serenaded tables while participants dined. After champagne and a full course of fine dining with wine pairings, guests were treated to a private fireworks show off the patio of the clubhouse. Stephen Struthers, Chairmen of the Businesses for a Better Nanaimo Board, said “I am so proud of the way our committee worked together; the Dinner of Lights was successful with teamwork and because of the support of those who bought tickets.” The introductory event raised almost $5,000 towards the O.R. lights and organizers are looking forward to their next gala in November 2015.
