The Longwood Ladies Knitting Group meet each Tuesday afternoon in their Thornbridge at Longwood clubhouse to have tea, share stories, and knit and crochet together. They also use the social time to fundraise. Each member pays a ‘cover charge’, which they collect throughout the year and then give to a worthy cause. This year they presented $250 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation to help buy equipment for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).
Since 2009 the group has given a total of $1,600 to the Hospital Foundation in support of the local Hospital. Amber Adams of the Hospital Foundation noted, “It is always our pleasure to visit the Longwood Ladies, they appreciate the power of a community, and that if we all pull together we can provide what is needed for the best possible healthcare right here. Over the years their gifts have helped the Paediatric Unit, the Palliative Unit, and the new Emergency Department. This means a lot to the medical professionals and patients they help at NRGH.”
