Vancouver Island Vocational and Rehabilitation Services (VIVRS) held their 2nd annual “Looking at Life” fundraiser in November at Fibber Magee’s Pub. More than 100 supporters turned out to participate in the Beer and Burger, helping to raise $4,000 for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. The fundraiser was first established in memory of long-term VIVRS employee Bud Roworth, and Eppie Brouwer, whose daughter Ingrid Tanasichuk is the Executive Director of VIVRS. Bud and Eppie received care in Cancer and the Palliative Care Units at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).
Thanks to the support of many businesses who offered prizes, the Beer and Burger was able to raise much of the donation through the silent auction. Tanasichuk explained the group’s gift is “for everyone, because so many people are touched by cancer. It is also uplifting personally because it gives us a chance to talk about, and remember, Bud and Eppie.” The donation will help purchase much needed life-saving equipment for NRGH.
