On the afternoon of April 17, 2010 Lillian and her husband Frank Merritt had just returned from volunteering at the Brechin Church "New to You" fundraising sale when they received a call from Leslie Sundby, Chair of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, announcing that they had won the Lotto for Life Grand Prize of $100,000. The couple was stunned. Having bought Lotto for Life tickets every year of the lottery's 17 year history, this is the first time the Merritts had won anything. They purchased their lucky ticket at RBC at Brooks Landing in Nanaimo. Frank, a retired aerospace engineer, gives full credit to his wife for such good luck, "here's a lady who has a good thought for everybody". Lillian was particularly pleased that all Lotto for Life proceeds will help fund the purchase of equipment for the new Emergency Expansion at NRGH.
The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation would like to extend its great appreciation to prize sponsors, media partners, ticket outlet hosts, and especially ticket purchasers who have made this year’s Lotto for Life such a success.
