The crash cart is an essential tool for “ER” staff reacting to medical emergencies because it houses lifesaving equipment. Judy Reid, Doug’s wife and Mid Island Chapter Director, said “the family is extremely pleased that this gift will go on to help other families.” The care and guidance given to Judy at “Heart House” in Victoria during Doug’s two open heart surgeries, one in 2004 and the second in 2005, made a tremendous difference in her ability to care for her husband.
FOHS Mid Island Chapter Chairman, Brian Kirby, encourages individuals and family members from Bowser to Ladysmith to join the Mid Island Chapter’s support meetings at 1:30pm on the fourth Friday of every month (next meeting September 28th, 2012) at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at 4235 Departure Bay Road. The group “supports and encourages people who are having, or who have had, open heart surgery…and anyone who has had heart related problems.” Judy also emphasizes the importance of the support she found within the Chapter’s community as the caregiver of a heart patient; it is for patients as well as families. The group can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or through Brian Kirby at 250-248-8751.
