The Auxiliary has more than 225 volunteers working in a variety of roles within NRGH, at the Gift Store, and the Thrift Store. Activities are not only fundraising in nature, they support essential services within the Hospital to better serve patients and their families. In addition to the donation presented to the Hospital Foundation the Auxiliary also contributions to several Departments within NRGH, including Dufferin Place. They also mentor young volunteers and give 4 bursaries to Junior Volunteers seeking post-secondary medical education.
The Nanaimo Auxiliary is an outstanding example to other Auxiliaries across the province and has been recognized as one of the top-fundraising groups in BC for their ability to raise funds and their progressive nature; visit their website at www.nrghauxiliary.ca. In addition, long time Auxiliary Member, Pamela Mar received the BC Community Achievement Award from the provincial government for outstanding volunteerism. She is currently working on the history of the Nanaimo Auxiliary to NRGH.
