The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Janice Perrino as the new President of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation effective August 2, 2016. The new President was selected after an extensive search that attracted interest from across the country.
Janice’s most recent position as Executive Director for the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation will be a valued asset to the Hospital Foundation. Her role managing the Foundation, SOS Café, and various business ventures raised funds for medical equipment in healthcare facilities throughout the South Okanagan and Similkameen Region. Prior to that, Janice worked for the BC Cancer Foundation at the BC Cancer Agency in Kelowna.
Janice has lead several medical equipment campaigns including fundraising for two MRI machines, CT Scanner, and Digital Stereotactic Mammography machine. She has spearheaded major renovation campaigns for Moog & Friends Hospice House, the Digital Imaging Department, Surgical Suites, and the new Patient Care Tower. Over the last twenty years Janice has been instrumental in raising more than $45 million.
Furthermore, Janice’s experience as the two-term Mayor of Summerland, the Chair of the Regional Hospital District for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS), and as a city Councillor for two terms will benefit the intricate relationships the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation has proudly established. She retired from politics in December 2014.
Janice has also served at the leadership level in many community organizations including Board Director for Okanagan College, Chair of the Summerland Olympic Committee, and Past-President of the Summerland Rotary Club. She has been a motivational speaker for Boards, local societies, and various business groups. Additionally, she has enjoyed serving as the speech and leadership coach for two youth groups (teenage girls) for more than ten years.
The new Foundation President has successfully achieved her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), has reached the designation of Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) with Toastmasters International, been awarded the Outstanding Resource Women of Honour (2007), and the Women of Distinction Award for Career Leadership (2003).
Greg Scott, Board Chair of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, said “we are very excited to welcome Janice to the Foundation. Her professional accomplishments, as well as her extensive community involvement, will be a valuable asset as she joins the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. We know that given her expertise and leadership capability the Foundation will continue to make healthcare special for everyone on Central Vancouver Island.”
Janice will succeed Maeve O’Byrne who is leaving the Foundation this summer after twenty-five years of outstanding leadership. Greg emphasized his respect for the outgoing President, “We wish Maeve the best of luck in all of her future endeavors. She has left a solid legacy that will continue to push healthcare excellence.”
