Wayne Hansen, President of the Nanaimo Lion’s Club, signs his name to $1,000 donation to Nanaimo Lifeline’s Silent Guardian Fund.
Over the past year the Nanaimo Lions’ Club has steadily raised funds for the benefit those less fortunate. The group donates to many worthy causes including Camp Shawnigan, Diabetes Foundation, and the Kidney Foundation. They also recently contributed $1,000 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation on behalf of the Silent Guardian Fund. The Silent Guardian Fund supports the needs of medically-at-risk individuals requiring Lifeline Services in order to stay at home longer. The Hospital Foundation administers the Nanaimo Lifeline Program.
Nanaimo Lion’s Club President, Wayne Hansen said “the Club decided a number of years ago that the Silent Guardian Fun was a projected we needed and we are very glad to help.” Executive Director of Lifeline, Joan Ryan, said “it s most gratifying to receiving such a wonderful gift because I know firsthand how many seniors on a limited budget this will help.” The Club earned their donation at flea markets, bottle drives, the sale of Lion’s Mints, and on Bingo Nights. The group has donated more than $17,000 to the Hospital Foundation since 1991.
