The Nanaimo Wave Babes Dragon Boat team continues to commit to the fight against breast cancer for women on Central Vancouver Island. Working together with their fundraising partners at DBL Disposal, Regional Recycling, and Woodgrove Centre the local paddlers have generated almost $140,000 since 2007 for the Medical Imaging and Surgical Suites Units at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). All equipment helps purchase breast cancer detection and treatment equipment for Vancouver Island women.
The group fundraises at the Think Pink event three times year, collects recyclable bottles in their Pink Bin on Bowen Road, hosts the Plant Sale & Eco Fair every Spring, and has inspired donations from the public as well as donations from the staff at Regional Recycling and Woodgrove Centre. Mention the Wave Babe’s at Cobs Bread, the Wellington Beer & Wine Store, and the Soap Exchange at Country Club Centre and a percentage of sales will be donated to the team. The public can donate scrap metal in the Pink Bin at DBL Disposal, 333 Tenth Street in Nanaimo during hours of operation throughout the year and all proceeds are given to the Wave Babes.
