Nanaimo’s Sikh community, through the Vancouver Island Khalsa Diwan Society (Gurdawara), recently presented the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation with a $5,500 gift for the purchase of vital equipment for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s (NRGH) two new Operating Rooms. Joe Dodd, Director at the Vancouver Island Khalsa Diwan Society (Gurdawara), explained “Whatever religious, social cultural and economic status we have, humanity should come first.”
Maeve O’Byrne, of the Hospital Foundation, added “The Sikh community’s altruistic efforts have also supported the hospital’s Emergency Department in the past. Their gift to the new Operating Rooms has funded life-changing medical equipment that benefits everyone on Central Island. We are very grateful for this generous donation.”
