The Parksville Qualicum Shrine Club was recently recognized by the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation for their steadfast support of healthcare excellence on Central Vancouver Island. The group received a plaque on the "Sea of Life", a recognition wall in the Ambulatory Care Wing at NRGH. This permanent acknowledgement marks the Parksville Qualicum Shriners' contribution of more than $40,000 to the Foundation.
Shrine President, Noble Colin Craig, said that Shriners are motivated to help children with their medical needs, and while they support several health care facilities in BC and Oregon they are happy when funds are delivered close to home. The Shriners raise funds through pancake breakfasts, cash calendars, and their upcoming annual Big Kids Dream Draw (cars, cruises, and cash). Shriners are recognized by their festive red fezzes and are popular parade participants, but they also do endless good works in their communities. Today, there are 400,000 Shriners in 191 Chapters across North and Central America.
