The Royal Canadian Legion Mount Benson Branch 256 continues to fund healthcare excellence in Nanaimo and Central Vancouver Island. Dave Beyea and Bob Chow recently delivered $2,000 to Amber Adams of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation for the Emergency Room Expansion at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).
Donations were collected during their annual Poppy Drive in 2009 and will help pay for essential equipment in the ER. Legion 256 is keen to donate to the hospital as it supports the increasing medical needs of veterans. As Branch President Dave Beyea points out, "this is the only hospital in town and it serves our veterans".
The NRGH Emergency Room was expanded in 1991 to accommodate 15,000 visits a year, but today more than 52,000 people visit seeking medical care. The Foundation has committed to raising $4 million for the ER Expansion.
