Last Fall Nanaimo residents generously gave a donation in exchange for a poppy, and then wore it with pride. Recently, the Royal Canadian Legion Mount Benson Branch #256 made good on their promise to support community needs through poppy donations with a $4,500 gift to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation’s CT Scanner Campaign. Last year 18,500 people received CT Scanners at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). Until now, NRGH had the oldest two Scanners on the Island. Thanks to donors like Legion #256, the Foundation is purchasing one of two new machines currently being installed at NRGH. Greater image clarity, faster image capture, and decreased radiation exposure will benefit all patients.
Legion #256 will also be celebrating “Legion Week” from June 24th to June 30th with a meet and greet on June 24th, a dinner and dance on June 25th, Family Day (with a pancake breakfast and BBQ lunch – by donation) on June 26th, and a visit from Veteran’s Affairs on June 29th. Follow the Royal Canadian Legion Mt Benson Branch 256 on Facebook to learn more, or watch for their newspaper ad. Since 1990 the Branch #256 has delivered almost $112,000 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation for healthcare equipment and programs that benefit veterans and their families.
