From left to right: Maeve O’Byrne, of the Hospital Foundation, receives a $15,000 donation from Dianna Rivard and Rob MacKay, of Quality Foods. The donation was thanks to the S.S. Minnow, which is owned by Quality Foods and used to support charitable causes. The ship was loaned to the Vancouver Boat Show in exchange for a donation. This is part of $30,000 in total donations the grocery store chain has given to the Foundation in recent months.
Quality Foods continues to support healthcare on Central Vancouver Island with two recent donations to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. Last month the group delivered a $15,000 donation thanks to proceeds from sales of Becel and Dempster’s products in their Central Island stores. The following week Rob MacKay and Dianna Rivard, of Quality Foods, presented an additional $15,000 to Maeve O’Byrne from the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. The second gift was thanks to the S.S. Minnow, made famous on the television show Gilligan’s Island. Quality Foods owns the famous ship and uses it for fundraising purposes. Earlier this year they loaned it to the Vancouver Boat Show in exchange for a donation to the Hospital Foundation. These recent donations add to the “Quality Foods Community Health Endowment Fund”. The grocery store chain has given more than $230,000 in support of healthcare for the benefit of their customers and staff since 1995.
