The Nanaimo Sabres Drill Unit Gizeh Shriners are a fundraising force in Nanaimo and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children every day. They also ensure children close to home are taken care of. Last month the Sabres Drill Team delivered $500 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation in order to support the Paediatric Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). More than 3,600 children sought medical expertise at the Paediatric Ambulatory last year; previously they would have to travel outside of the region to see specialists. The Nanaimo group raised their donation at the Shriners Draw for Kids; raffle tickets were sold for prizes that included vehicles and trips. Sabres Drill Unit President, Ray Chamberlin, said “we want our donation to stay local and help children, that’s what we do.”
