The staff of the Material Management Department at NRGH knows how to make a good thing even better. Each Friday morning staff members faithfully pay a loonie (or for some, a toonie) for the right to wear jeans to work. While this is a welcomed comfort for staff, they have also made it benefit to their hospital by donating their annual "Jeans' Day Fund" to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation to put towards the needs of children undergoing medical treatment at the NRGH Paediatric Unit. The group's motivation was explained by Laura Hansen, "we all work here, and we all used the hospital, so why not support your own facility?"
Foundation President, Maeve O'Byrne, was thrilled to receive the $250 donation as it demonstrated the understanding NRGH staff has of the work the Foundation does to benefit Island Health facilities on the Central Island.
