In the past year the Foundation has paid for equipment that benefits many areas of healthcare on Central Island, including, but not limited to: therapeutic gardens at Eagle Park Health Care Facility in Qualicum Beach; microscope, skin mesher, wireless sentinel node probe, and trabectome for Surgical Suites at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH); Ultrasound Probe for the Maternity Unit; and ongoing funding of the new Emergency Department (ED). While the ED has been the Foundation’s main focal point for three years, it supports many different types of equipment throughout Island Health facilities.
The Foundation raises funds through donations from individuals, service clubs, businesses, and philanthropic foundations. It also organizes fundraisers Lotto for Life, Run for Life, and Golf for Life. It also runs two revenue generating businesses, Code Brew Coffee Kiosk in the NRGH lobby, and Nanaimo Lifeline, a personal alarm system; proceeds are reinvested into healthcare. All funds stay within the Regional District supporting healthcare facilities serving a population of more than 160,000 people from Bowser to Ladysmith. NRGH is also the referral hospital for communities north of the Malahat, more than 400,000 people. To learn more visit www.nanaimohospitalfoundation.com
