Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada sell Smile Cookies for one week every September in support of worthy causes. Since 2010 the eight Nanaimo locations have directed 100% of the $1 cookie cost to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation in support of the new Emergency Department and the cost of needed medical equipment. This September Nanaimo Tim Hortons surpassed all previous Smile Cookie sales and presented $14,400 to the Foundation last week; since 2010 the local group has given almost $42,500 to healthcare within the region they serve.
Tim Hortons Nanaimo representative and franchisee, Dave Milne, said “Everyone uses the hospital so we welcome the opportunity to support the Foundation; the more we get involved, the more we want to be involved. However, we could not do this without our guests and our Tim Hortons’ team’s support. This is only possible because of them.” Nanaimo Tim Hortons have already challenged themselves to beat their 2013 donation next September.
