NRGH is the largest regional hospital in Canada without an in-hospital Unit. While the dialysis care in Victoria is outstanding, travel and time constraints often create financial and emotional strain on patients and their loved ones. Haemodialysis patients spend four hours dialyzing a day, three times a week without fail.
O’Byrne explains that "the Vancouver Island Kidney Patients' Association has taken charge of their health and made an incredible difference in the lives of kidney patients. This donation is more than enough to purchase an entire haemodialysis machine, at a cost $33,000". The Foundation is raising $540,000 for the purchase of equipment for the new Renal Dialysis Unit.
