In particular DBL Disposal, Regional Recycling, and Woodgrove Centre have been instrumental in enabling the Wave Babes to collect and generate earnings from their pink collection bins. Two “Think Pink” events were held in the Woodgrove Centre parking lot last year whereat scrap metal, refundable beverage containers, and electronics were dropped off by the public. Additionally, the team’s annual Plant Sale and Eco-Fair was in May at the Fire Training Centre and the city’s “Master Gardner” was on hand to advise customers.
The team does not stop at annual events; members also manage ongoing fundraising activities. Mention the Wave Babe’s at Cobs Bread, the Wellington Beer & Wine Store, and the Soap Exchange at Country Club Centre and a percentage of sales will be donated to the team. Or the public can drop off their recyclable empties at the team’s pink bin at the Bowen Road Co-op Gas Bar parking lot, or for year-round scrap metal donations visit the pink bin at the DBL Disposal, 333 Tenth Street in Nanaimo during hours of operation.
